Christ Church East Central

Ryan Straughn is a Barbadian economist who has played a central role in national economic leadership as Minister in the Ministry of Finance. He is recognised for his contribution to the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation Programme, focusing on restoring stability and rebuilding confidence in the economy.

His work has included involvement in domestic and external debt restructuring, creating fiscal space to strengthen public services and social support. Alongside fiscal reform, he has prioritised social inclusion, including support for persons with special needs through increased resourcing and the introduction of a special needs grant.

Beyond government, he has supported youth and culture through service as a director of the Waterford Music and Cultural Society. Elected as MP for Christ Church East Central in 2018 and 2022, his leadership is calm, technically grounded, and focused on ensuring that economic recovery translates into real improvements in people’s lives.
